1There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.Next Verse 2
The Book of Jacob is the third book of the Book of Mormon. Its full title is The Book of Jacob: The Brother of Nephi. According to the text, it was written by the ancient prophet Jacob. The purpose of the book, in his own words, is to persuade all men to "come unto Christ" (Jacob 1:7). While this book contains some history of the Nephites, including the death of Nephi, it is mainly a record of Jacob's preachings to his people. Chapter 5 contains The Parable of the Olive Tree, a lengthy allegory of the scattering and gathering of Israel, comparing the Israelites and gentiles to tame and wild olive trees, respectively.
In 545 BCE it was the turn for Nephi's brother Jacob to write on the plates, because Nephi had grown old and he saw that he was soon to die. The people were so happy with King Nephi that they wanted to call the next king Nephi II, and then Nephi III, and so on. Jacob writes that all the Jacobites, Josephites, and Zoramites were called Nephites together with the actual Nephites, and opposed to them were all the Lemuelites and Ishmaelites who were called Lamanites together with the actual Lamanites.
And the Nephites began to be lifted up in pride because they had been so blessed by God, and this led them to do wicked things. But Jacob and his brother Joseph tried as hard as they could to teach the people not to do wicked things, because if they didn't, they (Jacob and Joseph) would receive all the blame for their wickedness on the last day. "...otherwise their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at the last day."
O Glorious Prince of the Heavenly Host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible battle which they are waging against the principalities and Powers of the air, against the Dominators of this dark world, against all the Spirits of Evil. in help of man, Almighty created immortal, made in the aid of man, Almighty God created immortal, made in his image and likeness, and redeemed by a great price, from the tyranny of Satan.
Fight on this day the battle of the Lord, together with the angels of the saints, like the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who could not resist you and there was no place for them in heaven. That cruel old serpent, called the devil or Satan, who seduces the whole world, was thrown into the abyss along with his angels. Look, this primitive and murderous enemy of man has taken hold. Transformed into an angel of light, he walks around the world with a multitude of perverse spirits, invading the earth to erase the name of God and Jesus Christ, seize, murder and cast the eternal perdition of souls to the crown of eternal glory This evil dragon sheds, like the most impure flood, the venom of his malice in the men of depraved mind and corrupt heart; the lying spirit of ungodliness, of blasphemy, and of the pestilent air of impurity, and of all vice and iniquity.
These astute enemies have filled and drunk with gall and bitterness this Church, the wife of the Immaculate Lamb, and have put their unholy hands in their most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place, where the seat of St. Peter and the seat of truth have been placed as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable wickedness, with the iniquitous design that when the Shepherd wounded by the sea, also the sheep may be injured.
Then arise, O Prince invincible, give help to the people of God against the attacks of the lost spirits. Give victory to the people of God: They worship you as their protector and patron; in you the glorious Church with the defense against the evil power of hell; God has entrusted to you the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitudes. Pray the God of peace, that he may put Satan under our children, defeated so that he can no longer keep man in captivity and hurt the Church. To offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that he may soon find mercy in the eyes of the Lord; and overcoming the dragon the ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan, you again put him captive in the abyss, so that there is no longer seduce the nations.
